Ristorante Bacco E Cecere 2.0 – Saturnia

An extraordinary experience! When we arrived at the restaurant without a reservation, the head waiter welcomed us immediately and led us into an unforgettable dining experience at a Michelin-starred restaurant. He expertly guided us through the meal, from the beginning with a truffle-infused beef tartare to the end with a delightful steak, all accompanied by an exceptional rosé carefully selected by the manager. The ambiance was elegant, the service was professional, and the food quality was outstanding.

La Stellata Trattoria – Saturnia

In this corner of the bucolic Maremma countryside, it’s thrilling to enjoy the splendid view of the hills on the horizon while sipping a glass of local wine. As you browse through their menu, you’ll discover the classic flavors of traditional Tuscan dishes. Higly recommended.

Idyllium -Pienza

Only 13 tables in the heart of Val d’Orcia, an elegant and romantic atmosphere. The view leaves you speechless and the selection of dishes and wines is carefully curated and exquisite. You absolutely must try the charcuterie and cheese platter. The cocktails are also excellent. It is the best place in Pienza where to have an amzing experience. I loved so much this place.

La Vineria -Montepulciano

In an enviable historical context, inside the city walls, we find ‘La Vineria di Montepulciano, a place and a cuisine that synthesizes tradition and modernity, in a friendly atmosphere for all those who want to immerse themselves in the truest Tuscan experience, sipping good wine and delighting their palate with typical dishes. The ‘mood’ of the establishment is far from conventional; you will find yourself in a modern, youthful environment that reflects the warm atmosphere of a traditional Osteria – Vineria. The best time to visit Santorini, is typically from late April to early November. The peak tourist season is during the summer months of June to August when the weather is warm and sunny. However, if you prefer fewer crowds and slightly cooler temperatures, consider visiting in the shoulder seasons of spring (April to early June) or fall (September to early November). These periods offer pleasant weather and a more relaxed atmosphere. Keep in mind that specific preferences and activities may influence your choice of when to go. We went in May and we loved everything so I can suggest to pick this month.

How many days

The ideal duration for a visit to Santorini can vary depending on your preferences and what you want to experience. However, a typical stay ranges from 3 to 5 days. Here’s a general breakdown:

3 Days: If you’re short on time, you can cover the highlights of Santorini in three days. This would allow you to explore the charming towns of Fira, Oia, and perhaps one other village, relax on beautiful beaches, and visit a winery or two.

4 Days: With an extra day, you can delve deeper into the island’s attractions, spend more time at the beaches, take a boat tour to the volcano, and have a more leisurely pace to enjoy the stunning sunsets.

5 Days or More: If you have the luxury of more time, you can truly immerse yourself in Santorini’s beauty. You can explore additional villages, take day trips to neighboring islands like Thirassia or explore the archaeological sites. This allows for a more relaxed and immersive experience.

What to do

Fira

Fira is situated on the edge of Santorini’s volcanic caldera, offering spectacular panoramic views of the caldera and the Aegean Sea. Traditional white and blue-topped houses overlook steep cliffs, creating a breathtaking backdrop. The town is vibrant and offers a wide range of activities. You can stroll along cobbled streets and shop in boutiques, savor Greek cuisine in local taverns, or relax in cafes with views of the caldera.

Fira is home to several interesting museums, including the Archaeological Museum of Santorini, which displays artifacts from ancient Akrotiri, and the Folklore Museum, providing an overview of the island’s culture and traditions. The town has a lively nightlife with bars and nightclubs that stay open late into the night. It’s a great place to socialize and have fun after sunset. Fira is also a common starting point for boat trips to Santorini’s volcano. You can book tours that include visits to the volcano, hot springs, and the nearby island of Thirassia.

Sunsets: Oia’s spectacular sunsets are legendary. Many visitors gather at vantage points like the Oia Castle to watch the sun disappear behind the horizon. It hosts numerous art galleries, local artist boutiques, and souvenir shops. It’s an ideal place to appreciate Greek art and culture.

Pyrgos has a rich history and was once the capital of Santorini. You can explore its medieval Kasteli (castle), which offers panoramic views of the island. The ruins of the Venetian fortress and churches with Byzantine-era frescoes are among its historical treasures.Pyrgos has a strong cultural presence with art galleries, boutique shops, and traditional tavernas serving local cuisine. You can also visit the Santozeum Museum, dedicated to the history and culture of Santorini.

Climb to the top of Pyrgos for breathtaking vistas of the entire island, including the caldera, the surrounding villages, and the Aegean Sea. This elevated vantage point is particularly popular for watching the sunset.

Built in 1892, this lighthouse is located on the southernmost point of the island, facing the Aegean Sea. Its historical function was to guide ships during nighttime navigation in the waters around the island, but today it is one of Santorini’s most captivating attractions.

I had the pleasure of visiting Santo Winery during my trip to Santorini, and it was an unforgettable experience. If you’re a wine enthusiast or simply appreciate breathtaking vistas, this place is a must-visit.

The winery is perched on the cliffs of Santorini, offering panoramic views of the azure Aegean Sea and the famous Santorini caldera. The moment you step onto the property, you’re greeted with a sense of serenity and beauty that’s hard to put into words.

The wine tasting experience at Santo Winery is exceptional. They offer a variety of wine flights, allowing you to sample their exquisite wines. The standout for me was their Assyrtiko, a local grape variety that thrives in the volcanic soil of Santorini. The flavors were crisp, refreshing, and truly unique. The knowledgeable staff provided insights into the winemaking process and the history of the winery, making the experience not only delicious but also educational.

The winery has a spacious terrace where you can savor your wines while taking in the breathtaking sunset views. It’s an ideal spot for a romantic evening or a gathering with friends. Don’t forget to bring your camera; you’ll want to capture the mesmerizing sunset.

The winery also has a lovely gift shop where you can purchase bottles of your favorite wines to take home as souvenirs. Their wine-related products make for excellent gifts for wine-loving friends and family.

Venetsanos Winery

This winery is a hidden gem nestled on the cliffs of Santorini, offering not only exceptional wines but also some of the most breathtaking panoramic views of the island.

Upon arriving at Venetsanos, you’re immediately captivated by the stunning architecture that seamlessly blends with the natural surroundings. The winery’s design is a testament to both modern aesthetics and respect for the traditional charm of Santorini.

The wine-tasting experience at Venetsanos is nothing short of delightful. They specialize in producing wines from the indigenous Assyrtiko grape, and the results are outstanding. From the crisp and mineral-rich Assyrtiko to the more complex and aged versions, each wine I sampled was a revelation. The knowledgeable staff guided us through the tastings, offering insights into the winemaking process and the unique characteristics of Santorini’s terroir.

What sets Venetsanos apart, apart from its fantastic wines, is its unrivaled location. The terrace overlooks the azure Aegean Sea and provides a front-row seat to Santorini’s famous sunset. Watching the sun dip below the horizon while sipping on a glass of Venetsanos wine is a truly magical experience.

The winery also has a charming gift shop where you can purchase bottles of your favorite wines, as well as wine-related accessories and souvenirs to remember your visit.

Their aim is to provide impeccable and friendly service accompanied by carefully chosen chilled music in a modern, relaxing and romantic setting. The decor has been chosen in harmony with the beauty of Santorini creating the ideal atmosphere for socializing or enjoying a romantic drink, whilst taking in some of the best views in Santorini.

Fratzeskos Fish tavern

Fratzeskos Fish Tavern in Santorini is a hidden culinary gem that captures the essence of the island’s seafood traditions. Nestled in a charming corner of Santorini, this tavern offers an authentic and unforgettable dining experience.

The first thing that struck me upon entering Fratzeskos was the warm and welcoming atmosphere. It’s a place where you instantly feel at home, thanks to the friendly staff and the cozy, traditional Greek ambiance. The restaurant exudes a rustic charm that transports you to a simpler, more authentic era.

Now, onto the star of the show – the food. Fratzeskos specializes in fresh seafood, and you can taste the difference in every bite. The menu features an array of dishes that showcase the ocean’s bounty, from grilled octopus to tender calamari and the catch of the day. I had the pleasure of trying their famous lobster pasta, and it was a revelation. The flavors were sublime, and the portion size was generous.

The wine selection is impressive, with a variety of Greek wines that pair beautifully with the seafood. The staff is knowledgeable and can recommend the perfect wine to complement your meal.
